Avalanche Transceivers

An avalanche transceiver, or avalanche beacon, is a device that significantly increases your chance of survival in case of an avalanche. This is because it has a radio transmitter, with which help groups or your skiing companions can detect you if you have fallen under the snow. You can wear the transceiver under your clothes and it is easy to carry. The transceiver is a very important piece of equipment for skiers who like to go off-piste. The avalanche transceivers must be turned on as soon as you put on your skis, and the transceivers will send a signal until you turn it off again.

Avalanche Transceivers

If you encounter an avalanche and fall beneath the snow, the average survival time is 15 to 18 minutes. During this time it is of vital importance that you are located quickly, and an avalanche transceiver can significantly increase this chance. The transceiver sends a frequency of 457 kHz, making it easier for help groups or your ski or hiking partners to find you. Together with a snow shovel and snow probe, the transceiver is a part of a holy trinity, so it is essential to take with you when skiing or walking off-piste.
