CamelBak Cleaning
CamelBak normal cleaning
Allowing your CamelBak to dry completely after use or just to rinse it out quickly is not always enough to really clean the water bag. Unfortunately, bacterial growth is still possible, so we recommend that you always give your water bag a good cleaning after use. Of course it is not necessary to give the water bag a deep clean every time, but we definitely recommend washing it with soap. Below you can find out how you can clean your CamelBak using 3 simple steps. Do you want to give your water bag a really thorough cleaning? Then scroll further down and read the step-by-step plan for a deep clean.
Step 1: Empty and disassemble
Before you start cleaning your water bag or water reservoir, it is important that you first dismantle it completely. Carefully remove the hose from the bag and empty any remaining contents from both the CamelBak water bag and the corresponding hose into your sink.
Step 2: Wash with soap
After this, carefully wash the CamelBak water bag with warm and soapy water. You can use detergent for this, but also 2 tablespoons of soda crystals can be used for cleaning your water bag. Scrub the water bag thoroughly using a washing-up brush or use the CamelBak cleaning set for optimum results. Afterwards, rinse the bag well with warm water, so that no soapy residue is left behind. It is best to first rinse the hose of the water reservoir with warm water, after which you can scrub it with a special brush. You can also rinse the water hose thoroughly with warm water.
Step 3: Drying off and hanging up
After washing and rinsing, it is important that you completely drain the water bag and water hose. Afterwards, thoroughly dry the water bag with a towel and hang it up open. CamelBak has also developed various hangers and drying systems, on which you can hang the water reservoir and the water hose to let them dry. The corresponding attributes that come with the drying systems ensure that the water bag stays open so that it dries even better. This prevents unpleasant odours or any algae formation. You can also choose to store the bag in the freezer after drying so that no bacteria can form.
CamelBak deep cleaning
Is normal cleaning no longer enough and would you rather give your water bag a thorough clean? Then follow our step-by-step plan below for a deep clean of your CamelBak water bag and it will look completely fresh in no time. For additional information, also view the instructional video further down on the page.
Step 1: Cleaning with CamelBak Cleaning Tablets
Are you planning to give your CamelBak water bag a deep clean? Then start by emptying the water bag again. In this case, you can simply leave the corresponding hose attached to the water reservoir. Next, fill the water bag with warm water and add CamelBak Cleaning Tablets. Screw the cap onto the CamelBak water bag and shake it so that the detergent is distributed evenly everywhere. Check whether the water hose is also completely filled with the mixture by draining it a little. Completed all of the above? Then leave the water bag for 5 minutes so that the mixture can work its magic.
Step 2: Wash with soap and rinse with warm water
After you have let the detergent soak in for about 5 minutes, it is important that you empty the water bag. This is best done via the water hose, so that the mouthpiece is also cleaned immediately. Next, rinse the water bag and water hose with warm water. After, you can scrub the water bag firmly with the help of soap. We recommend that you use the special CamelBak cleaning set for optimum results. The hose can also be cleaned using this set. Have you finished scrubbing? Rinse the water bag and water hose thoroughly again with warm water, making sure that no soapy residue is left behind.
Step 3: Empty, dry, and hang the bag up
When you have finished washing and rinsing your water bag, it is time to dry it and hang it up. Here you can simply follow the step as described above. First empty the bag and hose, then dry them with a clean towel. You can then hang up both the water bag and the water hose using one of the drying systems that CamelBak has developed. You can also choose to store the water bag in the freezer after drying in order to prevent the growth of bacteria and algae.
