Item description

Hanwag's Alaska is a comfortable and versatile boot that is deal to wear as the terrain becomes more inhospitable. This boot has a leather outside designed in such a way that almost no seams are used for the construction, as seams will rub during long walks resulting in rough spots on your foot. Thanks to the high shaft of this boot, your ankle is also well supported, providing you with optimal protection. GORE-TEX® is used for the lining of this boot, which ensures that water cannot enter the boot, but vapour can be removed, protecting your feet against moisture and clamminess. The rubber outer sole of this boot provides good grip and great cushioning, especially on uneven terrain. The sole has special zones to support people who either have overpronation or supination. In order to have an optimal grip during downhill walks, part of the profile studs are placed at an angle. This version of the Alaska has extra space at the forefoot to offer more comfort to people with a wider foot.

Hanwag Size Guide

Hanwag works with specific shoe sizes. You can use our size guide below to determine the size you need. Note: The sizes and dimensions are simply indications and can sometimes differ. HANWAG makes use of specific shoe fittings, for example a Narrow fit, Wide fit, or Bunion fit. If a HANWAG shoe has been designed with a special fit, this is mentioned in the product title / description. If there is no mention of a specific type of fit, then you can assume that the shoe in question has a standard / average fit. HANWAG Narrow fit is suitable for those with a smaller foot width, HANWAG Wide fit is suitable for those with a larger foot width, and HANWAG Bunion fit is suitable for people whose big toe is crooked and bends towards their other toes (Hallux Valgus). When trekking and hiking, it's of vital importance that your footwear fits properly and comfortably. Your heel needs to sit securely in the back and your toes need to have enough room in the front. You can test this by putting the shoes on without tying up the laces. If it seems that there is a bit too much room at the sides or that it's a bit loose, then the heel is too wide for your feet. A top tip for checking if a shoe is the right size for you is seeing whether there is enough space for you to fit your finger between the tip of the shoe and your toes. If there is not enough space, then the shoe is too large; it's important to have this space so as to prevent your toes hitting the shoe when walking downhill.
